Hester's Alaska Trip-Week 1

Below are photos that I took around town and my dad's house during the first week.

*

I took this picture today from some mountains above the house. These mountains are called the Alaska Range and they're located north of here. This was the first day we had sunshine-it's been raining since I've been here, but nice because it's in the 60's.

This is a picture of Anchorage. It's from the same viewpoint as the last picture (about 1000 feet above sea level). It's about the size of Fresno but has half the population of the entire state. My Dad's house is in a town called Eagle River, which is northeast of Anchorage (to the right of the picture) about 10 miles. Eagle River's about the size of Clovis. Anchorage is on the Pacific Ocean, well actually off a body of water called the Cook Inlet.

This is a panoramic view of the last two pictures, plus a few others (I 'fused' them together with a photo editing program). The area that looks like a town on the right is Elmendorf Air Force Base, and Anchorage is to the left where the high rise buildings are. The dark mountain across the Cook Inlet is called the 'Sleeping Lady.' As you can see, nothing but blue sky-nice.

This is Mount McKinley-the highest peak in North America. It's about 350 miles north of where the picture was taken. We were driving down the the road from where I took the photos above. This picture doesn't do it justice-it was an awsome view. I'm going to try to get Dad to take me closer to it before I leave.

This is my sister Lauren.

The dog on the left is Teddy. Yes, his right eye is missing. The dog on the right is the other dog, Coco. He's half Chihuahua and half Papillion.

*

This is the Dad's backyard from the east and then west. The weather's been like this for the most part.

*

These are pictures of the backyard at midnight. It actually gets dark for a little while in the middle of the night now, as opposed to summer solstice (June 21) when it's light all night. Right now each night you add 5-6 minutes of darkness.
